Abode B & B has a lot going for it: friendly English owners, free Wi-Fi, a gorgeous roof terrace and great location in the up-and-coming Palermo area where all the new trendy restaurants are. Wine, beer and soft drinks are available to enjoy on the terrace – just help yourself and sign for what you have in the honesty book.
There are four rooms, all en-suite. One of the rooms has its own lounge with sofa and dining table, ideal for having friends round. There is plenty of storage and ample power points and complimentary bottled water is supplied every day, a nice touch.
When you arrive, Zoe will ply you with tea or coffee and fresh pastries from the shop round the corner.
Breakfast, served in a room off the terrace, is a civilised affair. Orange juice is freshly squeezed when you sit down and then you’ll be asked about your hot breakfast order: delicious scrambled eggs, with or without bacon. Toast and a range of spreads follow with more pastries and freshly brewed tea or coffee.
David can organise a pick up from the airport; depending on traffic, this takes about an hour and costs around US$40 each way.
It’s a short walk to the Subte (metro). Taxis are inexpensive and everywhere, but make sure you have pesos and in low enough denominations; taxi drivers don’t like giving change.
Don’t expect a country retreat – there is some traffic noise here, but it shouldn’t be a sufficient problem to spoil your stay. My guess is you’ll love it.
